You and Your Dog: Customize Your Training for Your Dog’s Temperament

Location: Columbia, SC

Time: 7:00 – 9:00 pm

Dates: Thursday, August 31st

Are you training the dog in front of you or the dog that you wish you had? Training needs to be adapted for the dog in front of us to bring out the strengths in that dog and downplay the dog’s weaknesses. What works best to bring out one dog’s strengths can be the exact thing that you shouldn’t do with a dog with completely different strengths. Stop training the dog you had last year and come learn how to train the dog in front of you today!

Beginner’s Manners

Does your dog try to jump on every person that comes to the door? Does your dog pull on the leash? Does your dog bug you endlessly when you are trying to relax? Imagine your dog choosing to sit instead of jumping. Imagine your dog walking nicely on leash with other dogs and people nearby. Imagine your dog relaxing while you are busy doing things in the house. It’s possible. Yes, even with your dog.

Fabulous Focus

Location: Rock Hill, SC

Time: 7:45 – 8:45 pm

Dates: Friday, September 15 – October 20

It’s never too late and never too early to start building your dog’s focus around distractions. Whether you want a well-behaved pet or whether you want to do agility, rally, obedience or any other sport, we all need to teach our dogs to focus on us while on-leash or off-leash. In this class, we will go over teaching our dogs to choose to focus on the handler and persist in focusing on the handler in spite of distractions. We will work with people, dog, toy and food distractions. We will also go over start work and end work cues to enable your dog to understand when they don’t need to focus on you. We will begin on-leash and will work towards off-leash focus games with a ring gate surrounding the working dog. We will also work on loose leash walking past distractions, leave it, and calm crating. Advanced dogs will do the advanced versions of the games.
